About GBYA

Our Mission
To provide opportunities for children to discover and nurture a passion for the arts, allowing them to experience the joy of artistic expression and social interaction that gives them a sense of belonging and strengthens the community.
Why The Arts?
Every child has a story to tell — and the arts give them the voice to tell it. Whether through a song, a brushstroke, or a character on stage, the arts inspire kids to dream, connect, and discover who they are. This is why we teach the arts — because every child deserves the chance to create, express, and shine.

At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: the arts are essential to being human. Arts education isn’t just about learning to sing, act, or paint — it’s about helping children grow into confident, compassionate, and creative individuals. The arts give kids a safe outlet to express their feelings, manage stress, and boost their mental health. They also bring children together, building friendships and creating a community where everyone feels welcome and valued.

We proudly align with The Positivity Project, which focuses on 24 character strengths proven to help children thrive. Through the arts, kids naturally develop many of these traits:
-
TEAMWORK – Working together in ensembles and casts.
-
BRAVERY – Stepping onto the stage or sharing their art with others.
-
CREATIVITY – Imagining, experimenting, and bringing new ideas to life.
-
PERSEVERANCE – Practicing skills until they shine.
-
OPEN-MINDEDNESS – Trying new experiences, perspectives, and art forms.

The arts don’t just create performers — they create problem-solvers, collaborators, and innovators. By teaching the arts, we’re helping kids build the skills and strengths that will make them happier, healthier, and ready for whatever their future holds.
Our History
Grand Blanc Youth Arts (GBYA) was founded in 2024 by a passionate group of local arts educators and community members who shared one mission: to bring more creative opportunities to the children of Grand Blanc.
The community has a rich history of arts programs — from school choirs and marimba bands to musical theater productions and the beloved Summer Arts Academy. These programs have inspired countless children in our community!
The Grand Blanc community has expressed interest in additional arts opportunities for children that are accessible, engaging, and innovative. GBYA was created to meet this growing demand! Since our founding, we’ve worked to provide a variety of fine and performing arts programs that allow children to express themselves, collaborate with peers, and develop confidence, creativity, and character. Our history is rooted in the belief that the arts can transform lives, build community, and give every child a chance to shine.
